We are sharing the obituary as a courtesy to the Hendley family.
Albert H. (Bert) Hendley Jr., age 88, of Zanesville, Ohio went to be with the Lord August 13th 2024 at Helen Purcell Nursing Home. Bert was the oldest of two sons born to Abb and Christine Hendley in Ansonville, NC on Dec. 2, 1935. He graduated Wadesboro High School, Asheville School for Boys, and Ohio University. Bert married the love of his life, Susan Beck on Oct 2, 1965 and enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage.
Bert and Susan moved to Zanesville shortly after being married. Together they developed “Hendley and Co.”, a very successful financial planning business and enjoyed serving their clients, friends, and community for sixty years. Known affectionately as the “man who planted trees” in Zanesville, Bert was also a Master Gardener who bought a series of ravines off Hunter Ave. and turned it into Mission Oak Gardens. The fruit of his efforts was soon inducted into the Smithsonian Archive of American Gardens. In addition, to his business and gardens, he and Susan served the community not only in hands on efforts, but also as Trustees on various boards and charities and was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church, Zanesville.
Bert joins his Parents Abb and Christine Hendley and his son Drew Hendley in Heaven. He is survived by his adoring wife Susan Hendley; daughter Amye Hambright, Son Albert H. Hendley III and his wife Candace; Grandchildren Alexis Ferguson-Ekstrom Husband Shane, Hunter Hambright, Rebekah Hendley, Joshua Hendley, and Evan Hendley along with his wife Kaitlin; great grandsons, Silas Quinn Hendley and Colt Ekstrom; and his brother John Nance Hendley with his wife Julie.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM with Funeral service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 18th with Rev. Karen Montgomery officiating at Bryan and Hardwick Funeral Home.
