Wadesboro - Mrs. Ann Harrington Nelson, 91, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in the Jesse Helms Nursing Center in Monroe, NC.
A private graveside funeral services was held Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Anson Memorial Park, conducted by Dr. Allen Laymon.
Ann was born in Anson County on June 3, 1922, a daughter of the late Jonah and Ruth Hill Harrington. She worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company and retired as a PBX training supervisor. She was a hard worker, loving wife and wonderful sister to our mother, Mabel, brothers Eugene and Vernon and her other sister, Avis. Aunt Ann traveled the world with much excitement, enjoyed life-long friends and lived most of her life in Greenville and Columbia, SC before moving back home to Wadesboro, NC. We will miss her love and concern for my brother and myself, always wanting the best for her 'boys.' You were always in our lives for all major events, Christmas being a favorite time in our memory. Never shy with her opinion, we always knew where she stood and we raise a glass to your life and your providence.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Ludie Nelson; siblings, Eugene Harrington, Avis Harrington Smethie, Vernon Harrington and Mabel Harrington Horne.
Survivors are her nieces and nephews, Bill Smethie (Mary Katherine) of Harrington Park, NJ, Barbara Smethie Griffin (Bennett) of Columbia, SC, Becky Smethie Darling (Pete) of Warner, NH, Alan and Michael Horne of Wadesboro, NC.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 118 E. Morgan Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
