WADESBORO – On Thursday, February 29, 2024, Mrs. Annie Lee Winfield, 85, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 4, 2024, at Brown Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
Interment will be private in Anson Memorial Park.
Annie Lee was born May 30, 1938, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late D.V. Smith and the late Lyda Lee Hammond Smith. She was a graduate of Polkton High School and retired from Anson County Schools as a teacher’s assistant at Peachland-Polkton Elementary School.
Having grown up in the Brown Creek Community and being a life-long resident there, she was brought up in Brown Creek Baptist Church and last attended Brown Creek Church with her family.
Annie Lee was proud of her rich family heritage and loved all things family. She enjoyed baking and cooking, growing her own vegetables, loved her animals and adored children.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Anita Winfield and Jeff and Christy Winfield all of Polkton; her grandchildren, Kevin Winfield and wife, Sally of Monroe, Gary Winfield and wife, Brandi of Polkton and Kacie Hayes and husband, Brad of Wadesboro; her great-grandchildren, Bailey and Slade Winfield and Kamryn, Brantley, and Lexi Winfield; her sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Charlie Horne of Charlotte and her brother-in-law, Leon Smith of Wingate and nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rodney Winfield and her brothers and sisters, D.V. Smith, Jr. (Star), Eugene Hammond Smith (Ann), Magdalene McCollum (Milford), Vivian Flake (Jack), Patsy Smith and infant Shirley Inez Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care-Hospice, 960 N 1st St, Albemarle, NC 28001 or to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
