Barbara Theresa Vernacchio Lerch

WADESBORO - On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Barbara Theresa Vernacchio Lerch, 74, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family at her bedside.

She was born December 31, 1949 in Woodbury, NJ and was a daughter of the late Salvatore Vernacchio and the late Barbara Ledbeater. When living in New Jersey, she worked as a security office at the Salem Hope Creek Nuclear Plant in Salem and when in North Carolina, she worked as a security officer at Union Regional Medical (Atrium Union) and as a correctional officer at Brown Creek Correctional in Polkton.

Barbara enjoyed riding motorcycles, trips to the mountains and to Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thomas Lerch; her children, Betty Hemple (Robin) and Tommy Ault; her son-in-law, Danny Martin; her grandchildren, Sheri Gibson (Jesse) and Ada Hemple and her great-grandchildren, Jayci Gibson and Raelynn Snyder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Martin and her brother, Ricky Vernacchio.

There will be no formal services.
