Barry Michael Grooms, Sr.

LILESVILLE - On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Mr. Barry Michael Grooms, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with his family gathered around his bedside.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the funeral home on Friday, August 30, 2024, and other times at the home in Lilesville.

Barry was born February 12, 1948, in Durham, NC, the only son of Doris Elizabeth Grooms. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. 

He was retired from B.V. Hedrick in Lilesville.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his children, Micheal Grooms (Lisa) of Marshville, Scottie Grooms (Heather) and Stanley Grooms both of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Summer Parker (Billy) of Lilesville, Skylar Grooms of Polkton, Hannah Grooms, Hayden Grooms and Holly Grooms all of Marshville; his great-grandson, Braxton Parker of Lilesville and his brother-in-law, Wayne Kelly (Linda) of Morven.

Barry loved his family dearly and looked forward to spending time with them at the beach. He was an avid fisherman and knew his way around the Pee Dee River. He also enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Kelly Grooms and his family rejoices that they are now together again.
