WADESBORO - Mr. Ben Sylvester Horne, Jr., 76, departed this life Monday night, May 4, 2015 at his home. Ben was born November 26, 1938 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Ben Sylvester Horne, Sr. and the late Albertha Richardson Horne. He attended the public schools of Anson County. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Madison Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He moved to Thomasville, NC and later relocated to Charlotte, NC for a number of years, where he was the owner of B and B Flooring for 20 years. Following his retirement, he returned to his hometown of Wadesboro. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Clara Bennett Horne, who preceded him in death, to this union, two children were born. He later married, Phadonia Wallace Horne, who preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Allen of Wadesboro; two sons, Mr. Ben S. (Diana Berry) Horne, III of Gastonia and Mr. Harold Horne of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Roderick (Cyekeshia) Pickett, Samantha (Jeremy) Townsend (who was his caregiver), Matoya (Brandon Boggan) Pickett, Monica Wallace, Danielle Reid and Benjamin (Nisah) Crawford; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Annie (James) Gaddy and Mrs. Nora Huntley both of Wadesboro; three brothers, Mr. Will (Thomasina) Horne and Mr. George Horne both of Charlotte and Mr. Sylvester Horne of Wadesboro; two aunts, Mrs. Rosa Martin and Mrs. Mattie Coppedge; two special cousins, Mrs. Charlene Martin and Mrs. Charlie Mae Horne; special friends, Debra Grace and Donald 'Big D' Sturdivant and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Melton and siblings, Frank, Arthur, Fred, Annie, Jennie and Robert. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Brouse, Hospice of Union County, Carolinas Medical Center Union and all the others who have shown love and concern for not only for Ben but the family, as well. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Madison Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
