ANSONVILLE - Mrs. Bessie Baucom Johnson, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Red Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Clements, Rev. David Lee and Rev. Nick Terry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends Saturday in the fellowship hall of the church for one hour prior to the services and other times at the home of Jim and Sara Johnson.
Bessie was born December 21, 1926 in Union County, NC a daughter of the late William Herron Baucom and the late Leola Treadaway Baucom. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School and worked for many years as a substitute teacher with Anson County Schools and with Anson County Council on Aging and Grace Senior Center.
A faithful member of Red Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, an expression of her love for music.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Dewey Johnson of the home; her children, Jim (Sara) Johnson of Wadesboro, Gregory (Lu) Johnson of Greensboro, Michael (Maya) Johnson of Little River, SC and Patty Johnson of Wadesboro; her grandchildren, Leiah (Tommy) Jarrell of Rockingham, Matt Johnson of Ellerbe, Phillip (Laura) Johnson of Lakeland, GA, Ashley (Daniel) Sharpe of Winston Salem, Amy (Nick) Terry of Asheboro, Gregory Sprowl of Hawaii, Edwina (Kevin) Kucharz of Atlanta, GA and Stefan Johnson of Little River, SC; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Audna Blackmon of Marshville, and Doris Baucom and Beulah Jackson both of Gastonia; and special care-giver to both Dewey and Bessie, Leroy Poole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Beecher, Marley, Joe Baucom and Ollie Tarlton Trull.
Bessie will always be remembered for her devotion to her family and for her servants heart in her genuine love and concern for the senior citizens in Anson County. She also loved nature, especially flowers,watching and caring for birds and travels, while she was instrumental in planning tours. She was also an accomplished seamstress and artist.
