MORVEN – On Friday, December 13, 2024, Mrs. Betty Treadaway Canipe, 94, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham with her family at her bedside.

Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, by the graveside in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan with Rev. Keith Stewart officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Betty was born November 15, 1930, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Randolph Treadaway and the late Elsie May Greene Treadaway. She was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and Pfeiffer Junior College. Following graduation from Pfeiffer, she enrolled in Presbyterian School of Nursing in Charlotte where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse.

She worked in nursing for more than 30 years with most of that time spent at Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw, SC and Anson County Hospital in Wadesboro. Her nursing career not only was in hospitals, she also worked for a period of time as plant nurse in manufacturing plants in the area, private duty and home care situations. Her nursing was also a gift to others in her community.

Betty was long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC and very active in the United Methodist Women.

She dearly loved her family and especially time shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed decorating her home for all seasons and special occasions. Watching and feeding the birds and having plants and beautiful flowers were other favorites of hers.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Clay Williams of Florence, SC, Susan Canipe of Morven and Beth and Barry Ricketts of Southern Pines; her grandchildren, Callie Huneycutt and husband, Greg of Pinehurst and Michael Ricketts and wife, Ashlyn of Vass and her great-grandchildren, Merritt Jane Huneycutt and Andie Paige Huneycutt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harding “Jim” Canipe and by her brothers, Harry Treadaway and Bill Treadaway.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 117 Third St., Cheraw, SC 29520 or to Hospice Haven at Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N US 1 HWY, Rockingham, NC 28379.
