Billy James Turner

PEACHLAND - Billy James Turner, 70, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday, May 6, 2021 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. David Shankle officiating. Interment will follow in Stoney Fork Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home and other times at the home. Billy was born July 6, 1950 in Davidson County, NC and was a son of the late James Loyd Turner and the late Mary Mauldin Turner. He spent many years as a truck driver in NC, driving since 1980. When he was not driving his truck, he enjoyed spending time in the mountains, having cookouts, and he also had a special talent for playing as a Magi in Magi Quest. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Brenda Carpenter Turner; his children, Brenda (Faye) Thomas, her husband Billy, Billy James Turner (Junior), his wife Mandy, Mary (Beth) Latham, her husband Randy and Franklin Turner, his wife Jamie and his sisters, Helen Reeves of Hampton, Virginia, and Geraldine Craven of Troy, NC. He was called “Pappy” by his grandchildren who were his pride and joy all of which he had special names for each. They are, Samantha Bowers “Frog”, Jennifer Speakman “Rat”, Amy Carpenter “Freckles”, RJ Estep “Rascal”, April Estep “Porky Pine”, Hannah Turner “Wiggle Worm”, Aaron Turner “Peanut”, Maddie Turner “Munchkin”, CJ Thomas “Clod Knocker”, and Alaina Turner “Bright Eyes” and his great-grandson, Kaden with another one on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Dunn.
