Wadesboro Mrs. Bonnie Powell Carpenter, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 while a patient at Atrium Health Union in Monroe.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30AM.
Born in Anson County on March 27, 1929, Bonnie was a daughter of the late Sidney Powell and Lula Kelly Powell (Johnson). She worked for West Knitting, Reeves Mfg., and Dawson, Inc. for a total of 32 years. She was a longtime member of Olivet United Methodist Church and was married to Edmund Wilson Carpenter who passed away in 2006.
Survivors include a son, Harold Carpenter (Terrie) of Lilesville; four grandchildren Sandra C. Teal (Michael), Michael Dean Carpenter, Alvin Bates (Missy), and Joel Gatewood (Jennifer); six great-grandchildren, Maddison Teal, Kaytlin Teal, Taylor Bates Griffin (Kendall), Ashlyn Gatewood, Lucas Gatewood, and Timothy Taylor (Devin); and two great-great-grandchildren, Layla Louise Griffin and Cameron Taylor.
Also surviving is a lifelong special friend, Azilee Goodwin and a special cousin, Betty Jean Huffstetler. In addition to her husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Carpenter; a daughter, Beverly C. Gatewood; a grandson Addison Bates; and three brothers, Sidney Powell Jr., Ben Powell and Curtis Powell.
