WADESBORO – On Friday, February 3, 2023, Mr. Buford Liles Bailey, 96, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior while in the company of his family at the home of his daughter in Lilesville.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, February 6, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park with military honors.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Buford was born November 12, 1926, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late James Benjamin Bailey and the late Nezzie Mae Goodwin Bailey. He had a long career in textiles spanning 38 years, having worked the first 10 years with Burlington Industries and 28 years with Hornwood.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II of which he was very proud.
Buford, a man of great integrity and faith, was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro. At First Baptist, he had taught Sunday School, was ordained as a deacon, having served as Chairman of the Deacons, and was active with Prison and Nursing Home ministries with a fellow church member, Boots Hough.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Jerrie and Jerry Taylor of Monroe and Kathy and Ed Huntley of Lilesville; his granddaughters, Wendy Lane and husband, Joe of Matthews, Amanda Burr and husband, Jeff of Lilesville and Monica Polston and husband, Donald of Wadesboro; his great-grandchildren, Morgan Freeman (Samuel) of Lilesville, Hailey Howell (Cody) of Wadesboro, Aubrey Burr (Madi) of Lilesville, Noah Brock (Amaya) of Wadesboro, Sarah Burr (Blake Nix) of Lilesville, Daniel Lane of Matthews, Annie Brock of Wadesboro, MacKay Burr of Lilesville, Elizabeth Lane and Emily Lane both of Matthews and his great-great-grandchildren, Stella and Olivia Howell and Sharpe Freeman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Brower Bailey, and his brothers and sisters, Grover Bailey, Carl Bailey, Wilson Bailey, Alice Hinson, Harold Bailey, Elbert Bailey, and Doris Teeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Bible Society, 101 North Independence Mall East FL8, Philadelphia, PA 19106-2155 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1198 Rockingham Rd, Rockingham, NC 28379.
