Carolyn Locke Martin

Charlotte - Miss Carolyn Locke Martin, 101, formerly of Ansonville, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Ambassador Health and Rehab in Wadesboro. Graveside services will be 2:00PM Monday, December 30, in the Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Clements officiating. The family will greet friends by the graveside immediately following the service. Miss Martin was born in Anson County on February 8, 1912, a daughter of the late Guilford C. and Zozo Kendall Martin. She worked as a civilian administrative secretary for the Army Corps of Engineers on the TVA project and later for the Chief of Engineers and Chief of Staff for the Dept. of the Army at the Pentagon in Washington DC. Miss Martin returned to Charlotte in 1967 to care for her ailing mother. She continued to reside in Charlotte until her recent failing health precipitated her return to Anson County. 'Aunt Locke,' as she was affectionately known, loved people, animals, traveling, and horticulture. She was a lifetime member of Red Hill Baptist Church and, at the time of her death, its oldest living member. Miss Martin was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn K. Martin and William Lane Martin as well as two sisters, Laurie M. Copeland and Frances W. Kimbrell. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Evelyn Martin, along with a number of nieces and nephews and their families.
