Cary Bland Diggs, 85, of Bessemer City, passed away on August 13, 2014. He was born April 25, 1929 in Lilesville, NC of Anson County, son of the late James E. and Estelle Knotts Diggs. Cary attended First Baptist Church in Bessemer City for 40 years where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone who knew him. He retired from Duke Energy after a long career and he served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant of the US Air force. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Willie and John Diggs; sisters, Sadie Mayse and Thelma Diggs. He is survived by wife, Doris Gail Diggs; daughters, Pamela Diggs Trakas of Gastonia, NC, Gina Diggs of Sugar Grove, NC; grandchild, Hannah Driver and husband Barry of Gastonia, NC; sister, Lena Barber of Lilesville, NC; great-grandchild, Zachary Driver of Gastonia, NC. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday at First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, 107 E. Washington Ave. Bessemer City, with the Rev. Tom Ravan and Rev. A.A. Bailey, officiating. The family will receive friends 10:30-11:45 am prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City with military honors provided by US Air Force and Gaston County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, P.O. Box 397 Bessemer City, NC 28016 or VFW Post 9337, 3250 W. Franklin Blvd. Gastonia, NC 28052. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia. Obituary posted on Leavitt Funeral Home website as a courtesy to the Diggs family.
