ALBEMARLE - Mrs. Catherine Northcutt Duckworth died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Forrest Oaks Healthcare Center in Albemarle.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, March 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Catherine was born in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Gladys Timmons Northcutt. She had worked for many years with her brother, Raymond in the insurance business and then assisted her husband, the late Dr. Cecil Duckworth with his optometry office in Albemarle. In later years, she worked part-time at Brodt Music Company in Charlotte and Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.
Catherine was very active in civic activities in Stanly County including, board member of Mental Health Association, past co-director of Stanly Community Christian Ministry, past President of Crisis Assistance Fund, Albemarle Women's Club, World Book Club, Ladies Auxiliary Stanly Memorial Hospital and a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she and her late husband, were named Lay Persons of the year in 1989.
Surviving are her brothers, Med Northcutt, Sr. of Morven and Frank (Louise) Northcutt of Charlotte and her nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Dr. Cecil Duckworth and her sister and brothers, Marie Burns, Harold, Raymond, Edward and Jerry Northcutt.
Although Catherine never had children of her own, she loved and adored her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She enjoyed celebrating their successes with them and spending time with family and friends. She was the matriarch of the Northcutt family and was often the primary care giver for family members.
Catherine's family wishes to thank the staff of Forrest Oaks for the loving and exemplary care they gave her. Her Forrest Oaks family affectionately called her 'Duckie'. The family will remain eternally grateful.
