MORVEN Mrs. Celeste Steagall Wall, 93, died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Carolinas HealthCare System Anson in Wadesboro.
There will be a service to celebrate her life at 4:00pm Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Morven Presbyterian Church with Mr. Ken Goins, CLP officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
The inurnment will be private in Morven Cemetery.
Celeste was born March 24, 1925 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late William Ernest Steagall and Myrtle Celeste Holt Steagall. At the age of 16, she graduated from Morven High School, Class of 1941 and earned a Bachelors of Arts in Business from Womens College in Greensboro (UNCG).
She was a life-long and faithful member of Morven Presbyterian Church and helped sustain the churchs ministries as long as her health allowed. Her family has been members of the church for generations.
A well-noted crafts enthusiast, she was the owner and operator of Back Porch Crafts in Morven. She had craft classes and had many students in and around Anson County. She enjoyed needle point, knitting, making baby blankets and often shared handmade Christmas gifts with her family.
An excellent homemaker and cook, her family and friends will remember her for making homemade bread, pound cakes and pear honey.
Celeste lived her faith and always made time every morning for Bible reading and devotion. A part of her gift in sharing her faith was her love of making Chrismons, ornaments made from Christian symbols that can tell others the story of Christ. Her Chrismons have blessed many homes of family and friends for many years.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children, Mary Buckingham and James E. Wall, Jr. both of Morven, Margaret Goins of Wadesboro and Inez Vaughn of New London; her grandchildren, Wheeler Buckingham (Jennifer) of Polkton, Celeste Dutton (Woodie) of Morven, Stephen Vaughn (Moira) of Matthews, Caroline Goins and Elizabeth Rizzo (Joe) both of Wadesboro; and her great-grandchildren, Lauren Dutton, Madison Dutton, Anna Dutton, Tommy Buckingham, Payton Buckingham, Emerson Vaughn and Lilian Vaughn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Wall, her sons-in-law, Tom Buckingham, John Goins and Rev. Ronnie Vaughn and her brother and sister-in-law, William E. Steagall, Jr. and Jane Plyler Steagall.
