OBITUARY DR. CHARLES INSLEY ALLEN, JR. BRADENTON, FL-Dr. Charles Insley Allen, Jr., 88, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Wadesboro, NC, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, FL. Services will be 11:00am Saturday, October 15, 2011 by the graveside in Eastview Cemetery with Dr. Robert Hunter, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends Friday from 6:30pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro, NC. Charles was born June 11, 1923 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Dr. Charles Insley and Louise Lambeth Allen. He graduated from Wadesboro High School and then attended Wake Forest College. His college activities were interrupted by services in the US Army from 1943-1946. He received a BS degree from Wake Forest in 1948 and an MD degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He was subsequently trained in surgery and certified by the 'American Board of Surgery.' He practiced general surgery in Laurens, SC from 1960-1988. In 1993, he and his wife, Billie moved to Bradenton, FL where he was active in the First Baptist Church, teaching the men's Sunday school class and participating in several mission trips. He was an avid jogger for many years. His family remembers him as a beloved father and faithful friend to many. Survivors include: his wife, Lillian 'Billie' Rivers Allen of the home; his daughters, Edna Allen Early and Jane Allen Myers both of Bradenton, FL, Cathy Allen Nutting of Fraser, CO; his son, Dr. Benjamin G. Allen of Albemarle; and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Annabel Stanback of Wadesboro; and a brother, F.C. Allen of Wadesboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Effie A. Tillman and a brother, Burgess M. Allen.
