WADESBORO – On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, with his family gathered at his bedside, Mr. Charles Franklin Almond, Jr., 84, peacefully slipped away to join the choir in heaven.
There will be a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2024, at North Wadesboro Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Helms officiating.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday and other times at home.
Charles will lie in repose from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2024, at Leavitt Funeral Home for those who wish to pay their respects.
Charles was born March 28, 1940, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late Charles Franklin Almond and the late Annie Jane Pegram Almond. He was a graduate of Wadesboro High School.
As a high school student, Charles began working in textiles at a knitting mill in Jefferson, SC and he did for a few years after being married. Later he worked at West Knitting Mills in Wadesboro until their closing, and he retired from Perfect Fit in Monroe.
A long-time member of North Wadesboro Baptist Church, his greatest love there was singing in the choir and having served as music director.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 65 years, Sybil Tyson Almond; his children, Dean Almond and wife, Michele and Crystal Almond and husband, Mark Starling all of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Lindsey Almond of Virginia and Gralen Starling of Angier; his sister, Louise Williams and husband, Larry of Lilesville; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy Almond of Lilesville, Julia Morton of Kershaw, SC, Bessie Stubbs of Charlotte and Franklin Tyson and wife, Janet of Charlotte and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Shorty Almond (Judy), Vernon Almond, Peggy Propst, Erskine Almond, and Nancy Forbes (Marvin), and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Myrtle Tyson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Wadesboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 764, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
