Wadesboro - Mr. Charles J. Boyle, 92, died Sunday evening in Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe, NC.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Leavitt Funeral Home.
Charles was born in New York City on March 6, 1921, a son of the late John Boyle and Mildred Moore Boyle. He faithfully served his country in the US Army from June 1942 until November 1945. He was stationed in the Ardennes, Central Europe and in Rhineland. Charles also served in the US Air Force from February 1952 until February 1953. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Charles was a retired railroad mechanic. Charles was an active and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved in many other activities including a lifetime membership in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Lions Club. He served as a volunteer with the Anson Crisis Ministry working 5 days a week for 10 years picking up food donations from local grocery stores.
Survivors include his only daughter, Vivian Skipworth and her husband, Cecil, of Goose Creek, SC; two granddaughters, Lynn Bonnette Manning and her husband, Thomas, of El Centro, CA and Kellie Bonette Bumgarner and her husband, Christopher, of Goose Creek, SC; and four great-granddaughters, Morgan Manning, Julia Bumgarner, Jasmine Bumgarner, and Elizabeth Bumgarner.
Also surviving is a sister, Kate B. McLaughlin of NY; his special companion and friend, Hazel Morris; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Stroud Boyle, a brother, Raymond Boyle and a sister, Anne Boyle Dasher.
