LILESVILLE – On Friday, December 23, 2022, Mr. Charles Eugene Freeman, 100 and a half years old, passed away peacefully at his home in the company of his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2022, at Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Sybil Perrell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Eugene was born July 18, 1922, in Thomasville, NC and was one of nine children born to Robert Lee Freeman and Jeannie Edna Blake Freeman. He was a graduate of Lilesviille High School where he met his soul mate and wife, Hazel Simpson Freeman.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II. A life-long farmer, his farming was varied and included poultry and he later retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Mechanic.
He was a faithful and long-time member of Olivet United Methodist Church, where he attended faithfully until the COVID pandemic, he was 98 at the time.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dare Ford (Keith) of Hendersonville, Mike “Spider” Freeman (Sally) of Lilesville and Rebecca Freeman of Lumberton; his daughters-in-law, Cora Freeman of Orinda, CA and Nancy Freeman of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Victoria Capell (Brian), Scarlett Freeman (Vina Ha), Elizabeth Ferguson (Michael), Andrew Ford (Porshe), Michael Craven (Jennifer), Angela Schulz (Jonathan), Scottia Kelly (Mike), and Ray Quick and a host of great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Freeman and Donald Scott Freeman, his grandchildren, Anna Ford and Blake Freeman and his brothers and sisters, Howard Freeman, Elgie Dennis, Ruth Garrison, James “Jim” Freeman, Ed Freeman, Alta Jackson, Clyde Freeman and Carlton Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o, Martha D. Goodwin, 3788 Stanback Ferry Rd., Lilesvile, NC 28091.
