MORVEN - Mr. Charles Adkin Garris, 92, died Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at New Hope United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Anson Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday, March 28, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro and other times at the home.
Charles was born December 13, 1923 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Charlie Brown Garris and the late Elizabeth Russell Garris. He was a 1942 graduate of Lilesville High School and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served during World War II.
He was retired from Eckerd Drug with more than 20 years of service and following retirement, he worked with Leavitt Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a devoted member of New Hope United Methodist Church and served the church and its ministries faithfully until his declining health.
Surviving are his wife, Polly Griggs Garris of the home; his daughter, Linda Vaughn and husband, Don of Morven; his grandchildren, Michele Hinson of Asheboro, Tammie Phillips and husband, Scott of Indian Trail, Jennifer Helms and husband, Mark of Matthews, Angie Garris of Shallotte and Bryan Garris and fiance', Stephanie of Marshville; his great-grandchildren, Chuck Hinson, Christian Hinson, Logan Phillips,Lexie Phillips, Lexie Phillips, Owen Phillips, Ethan Helms, Aiden Helms, Scott Teal, Kyle Teal and Becky Teal and great-great-grandson, Brantley Teal; his daughter, Karen Phillips and husband, Cliff of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Tanda Phillips, Candace Phillips, Reagan Phillips, and Faith Phillips all of Charlotte and Kirsta Black and husband, Jordan of Mt. Holly, and his great-grandchildren, Bella Phillips and McCoy Black.
Also surviving are his brother and sisters, Julian Garris and wife, Dolores and Eunice Jordan both of Wadesboro, Margaret Tucker and husband, Basil of High Point and Pauline Davis of Trinity.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Lyndon Chuck Garris,great-grandson, Cody Phillips, brother and sisters, William Garris, Ida Mae Thompson, Clara Sellers, Sarah Phipps, Etta Lee Stafford.
