Wadesboro Mr. Charles A. Wallace, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 while a patient at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, November 6, at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Furr, Dr. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Steve Eddins officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Charles was born in Chesterfield County, SC, on June 15, 1932. He was a son of the late William Thomas Wallace and Rosella Brock Wallace. A carpenter by trade, Charles worked hard at his craft and took great pride in seeing that a job was done right according to his exacting standards. He loved fishing, especially with his brother, Johnny, and they spent many hours together on the Pee Dee River as well as Hatteras Island at the coast. Charles took a keen interest in keeping his lawn carefully manicured and found immense joy in flowers. By all accounts, he was a fascinating storyteller who enjoyed the laughter that came with the sharing of tales. Charles never met a stranger, whether human or canine and did all he could to aid both. He loved and kept many dogs throughout his life including his very special companion, Nick. He had a wonderfully deep and abiding love for both his family and friends but none more so than his wife of 66 years, Myrlie Griggs, the love of his life who passed away on June 9, 2017.
Survivors include a daughter, Arnette (John) Tolhurst of Bostic; a granddaughter, Shawn Tolhurst of Santa Fe, NM; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Harris also of Santa Fe, NM; and a brother-in-law, Bob Dillingham of Chesapeake, VA. In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Wallace and eight brothers and sisters, William "Plase" Wallace, Lee Roy Wallace, Hampton Wallace, Nancy Teal, Carolyn Wuerpel, Peggy Trexler, Bobbie Wallace and Johnny Wallace.
