Clara Ann Livingston Gathings

Wadesboro Mrs. Clara Ann Livingston Gathings, 79, died Thursday, October 26, 2017, at her home with her children by her side. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Monday in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, McFarlan, NC. Entombment will be private. The family will greet friends on Sunday evening at Leavitt Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Clara Ann was born in Anson County on November 13, 1937, a daughter of the late Clara Mae Allen and Hugh Alfred Livingston. She graduated with 12 years of perfect attendance from Morven High School in 1956. Clara Ann eventually earned employment as a tax preparer and worked for over 40 years for H&R Block. Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Swearengin (Steve) and Robbie James (Derek), both of Wadesboro; three grandchildren, Stephanie Cox (Cobey), Macy Smith (Brandon), and Sally James; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Swearengin, Isaiah Swearengin, and Graycen Cox; a brother, Henry Livingston (Sarah) of Cheraw, SC; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Livingston and Glenda Livingston; and her beloved four-legged canine companion, Kendall. In addition to her parents, Clara Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William F. "Billy" Gathings; a grandson, William Matthew Swearengin; three brothers, Robert, Rufus and Johnny Livingston; and a sister, Polly L. Edwards.
