There will also be a memorial service at a later date in Brantingham, NY.
Maynard was born December 6, 1935 in Orlando, FL the only son of the late Clarence Maynard and Margaret Elizabeth Gutheintz Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Belk Johnson.
Following high school, he graduated in 1954 from Paul Smith University with an Associate's Degree in Forestry and later in 1956 from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry. He worked for a brief period with International Paper Company in South Carolina and it was during that time that he was introduced to Anson County and the need for forestry management.
In 1959, he began his own business, C. Maynard Johnson Consulting Forester, the first forest consultingcompany in Anson County. Maynard and his son operated a well-respected and reputable business until Maynard's retirement in 2012. Young men, interested in a career in forestry revered Maynard and his knowledge and passion of forestry.
A modest man, he never wanted his college diplomas or awards hung in public places as his interest was serving his clients to best of his ability. However, one of his most significant accomplishments was that of being instrumental in the establishment of the Hugh Hammond Bennett Soil Conservation Service in Anson County.
For those who knew Maynard best, he will be remembered for his love of his family camp in Brantingham, NY, where enjoyed fishing, especially trout fishing, and quail hunting. His fondness for hunting really just involved watching the hunting dogs work.
He was a member of both Quail and Trout Unlimited and the Society of American Foresters.
Forestry was his passion, he lived and breathed it! He enjoyed collecting classic automobiles and enjoyed the relationships he shared with both his bird dogs and house dogs.
Surviving are his wife, Stacia of the home; his sons, Eddie Johnson of Albemarle and Mark Johnson of Greer, SC and his step children, Terri (Charles) Gomm of the Burnsville Community, Samantha Arrington of Cloud Lake, WI and Roy (Tracy) Barnes of Cedar Point, NC.
