POLKTON - Mr. Claude Benjamin Maness, 88, died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 2, 2014.
Claude was born March 8, 1926 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Jesse William Maness and the late Lelar Eddins Maness. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation after 30 years of service there. He served his country in the US Army during World War II from 1944 until 1946.
Claude enjoyed good health until the end. He loved to hunt, garden and spend time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Elizabeth Wright; 4 daughters, Barbara Bunn of Indian Trail; Cathy Basham of N. Myrtle Beach; Amy Cipau of Raleigh and husband Gabriel; and Gay Maness of Greensboro and husband, Mike Ignelzi. He is also survived by granddaughters, Brooke and Claudia Basham of N. Myrtle Beach and Virginia Ignelzi and grandson, Atticus Ignelzi both of Greensboro. He has many nieces, nephews and good friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Oakdale Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Griffin Cemetery with military honors.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro.
