MARY COLLEEN HILDRETH SCHWERK, 88, peacefully passed away at 4:49PM on March 17, 2015 surrounded by loved ones in Raleigh, N.C.
She was born on November 21, 1926 to Kemp Battle and Jennie Bett Hildreth in Wadesboro, N.C. the eldest of three children, and moved to Fayetteville, N.C. in 1945 where she worked for 30 years in Civil Service to the U.S. Army. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, James Covington Hildreth of Wadesboro, sister, Lois Hildreth Williams of St. Augustine, FL, and husband, Louis Irving Schwerk.
She is survived by her daughter, Dasheila Kim Schwerk Williams of Cary, N.C., two grandchildren, Danielle Kandice Williams Peterson of Waxhaw, N.C., and Malcolm Earl Williams, III of Holly Springs, N.C., and two great-granddaughters, Abigail Nicole and Lauren Alexis Peterson of Waxhaw, N.C.
In 1975, Colleen retired to her family farm in Wadesboro, N.C. where she was an active member of First Methodist Church in Wadesboro. She remained in Wadesboro until 2012 when she relocated to Raleigh, N.C. to be closer to her daughter.
In retirement, she and her husband were heavily involved with the organization and operation of the Wadesboro Farmer's Market for many years.
Funeral services will be 1:00PM Friday, March 20, 2015 at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, NC. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon. Colleen will be buried at 1:00PM Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, N.C. with her husband.
