HAMLET - Mrs. Deborah Baker Griggs, 62, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center with her husband and children at her bedside, following a courageous 6 week journey following a liver transplant.
There will be a service to celebrate Debbie's life at 11:00 am Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Kings Gate Church in Hamlet with Pastor Eddie McLean, Rev. Frank McQuage and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday, December 26, 2014 at Kings Gate Church and other times at the home of her daughter on McLean Street.
Debbie was born March 13, 1952 in Anson County, NC a daughter of Jesse Leon Baker the late Mary Agnes Russell Baker. She was a homemaker and a member of Kings Gate Church.
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Donald Griggs of the home; her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Mac Tucker, Traci and Mike Morrison and Lauren Griggs and Nick Moore all of Hamlet; her grandchildren, Caleb and Cameron Neeley, Alden, Brayden, Kyleigh and Kelby Morrison and Aniston and Nicholas Griggs all of Hamlet; her parents, Leon and Virginia Baker of Rockingham and her brothers, Mike Baker of Rockingham and Glenn Caulder and Ken Caulder both of Wadesboro. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Baker.
She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a woman of great faith and determination. Her life was a witness to others and countless lives have been touched by her shining example. Debbie walked through life hand in hand with Jesus and her family is comforted in knowing she is now at peace with her Savior.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown to Debbie and their family while they walked through the path of organ transplant. Her family will remain forever grateful to all who have been supportive of them and especially to the staff of Duke University Medical Center for the exemplary love and care.
