ANSONVILLE - Mrs. Della Lee McLendon Lindsey, 80, of Albemarle and formerly of Ansonville died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Bethany Woods in Albemarle. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Della was born January 23, 1934 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Willie Bell McLendon and Josh Davenport. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she played the piano when called upon. She worked in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Young, caring for their children and later moved to New York and worked in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spitzer as a housekeeper for a number of years. She returned to Ansonville in 1971 and then went to work at Collins and Aikman in Norwood and worked there for 28 years prior to her retirement. Della was married to the late John Lindsey. She was the mother three sons, David J. McLendon who preceded her in death; Woodrow Lindsey of Badin, NC and Carl J. Lindsey of Asheboro, NC; two brothers, Josh Davenport of Plainfield, NJ and Collin Davenport of High Point, NC; one brother, Willie Lewis McLendon, who preceded her in death; one sister, Mary E. Medley, who preceded her in death; her grandchildren, Erica Lindsey of Albemarle, NC, Kesha Lindsey of Charleston, SC, Corteasha Smith and Tamieka Tillman both of Wadesboro, NC, Carl Lindsey, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Delphine Hall and Jennifer McLendon both of Wadesboro, NC, Kevin Ledbetter of Norwood, NC and Tim Smith of Albemarle, NC and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
