Dewey Mr. Johnson

ANSONVILLE - Mr. Dewey Johnson, 91 was called to eternal rest on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Meadowview Terrance Assisted Living in Wadesboro, NC. A service to celebrate his life will be 2:00PM Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Red Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. David Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Saturday one hour prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. The youngest of ten children, Dewey was born in Anson County on September 12, 1924 to James McDonald and Ella Elizabeth Martin Johnson. He attended Ansonville School and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He worked for 31 years with the United States Postal Service in the Wadesboro office, during this time; he also owned and operated Johnson's TV- Radio-Appliance Sales and Service Center. He had customers from Anson County and the surrounding areas who would have their TVs and Radios serviced at his shop. Following his postal career, he was the owner and proprietor of Johnson's Auto Sales. To him, showing love for his family was best exemplified through being a provider. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a voracious reader, Dewey was knowledgeable on most any subject and he particularly enjoyed keeping up with politics. He served as Commissioner for Anson County from 1992-1996. He served as a member of the Aging Advisory Committee; Region F; for Centralina Council of Governments (Council on Aging) and was also a member of the Blackmer Masonic Lodge #127, in Mt. Gilead, NC. As a long-time member of Red Hill Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and had been a faithful member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Men's Gospel Ensemble. The Randall Bible Sunday School Class, was among his greatest loves at Red Hill Church and the fellowship he shared with the men in the class spanned decades. Being a 'hands on man', he was capable of doing almost anything. Prior to his declining health, some of his other interests were engine repair and wood working. He and his wife were great admirers of God's beautiful creations, especially gardening and bird watching. In 2013, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Bessie Baucom Johnson; his parents, and brothers and sisters, Conley, Boyce, Brice, and Jim Johnson, Nezzie Jarrell, Lessie Sikes, Della Nash, and Gladys Sikes. Four children left to share memories of their father are: his sons, James Johnson (Sara) of Wadesboro, Gregory Johnson (Lu) of Greensboro, Michael Johnson (Maya) of Little River, SC; and his daughter, Patty Johnson of Wadesboro; his grandchildren, Leiah Johnson Jarrell (Tommy) of Rockingham, Matt Johnson (LeAnn) of Aberdeen, Major Gregory Sprowl, MD, US Army of Hawaii, Edwina Sprowl Kucharz (Kevin) of Atlanta, GA, Philip Johnson (Laura) of Jessup, GA, Ashley Johnson Sharpe (Daniel) of Winston-Salem, Amy Johnson Terry (Nick) of Thomasville, and Stefan Johnson of Little River, SC; his 13 great grandchildren; his loving sister, Emma J. Tyson of Albemarle; and his devoted friend and caregiver for whom the family is most grateful and appreciative, Leroy Poole of Stanfield. There are two important healthcare providers for which the family will remain grateful, Liberty Home Health Care and Hospice and Meadowview Terrace Assisted Living. An exemplary degree of dignified care was shown for both Dewey and his family by Liberty and Meadowview Staffs. They became as extended family over the years.
