Peachland - On Sunday, December 13, 2020, while at his home, Mr. Dewey Leonard Ward entered into eternal rest.
Services will be 2:00pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 by the graveside in the Beeman Family Cemetery located on Peachland Polkton Road in Peachland with Rev. Kevin Ricketts and Rev. Jean Taylor officiating. Due to limited seating, those attending may wish to bring a lawn chair to the service.
The family will greet friends following the service and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.
Family and friends may pay their respects between the hours of 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.
Leonard was born December 13, 1933 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Dewey Daniel Ward and the late Henribelle Talent Ward. He was a graduate of Sevier County High School in Seviervlile, TN and was retired from Alltel Communications with 43 years of service.
He was a member of Kilwinning Mason Lodge #64 for 60 years and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Vanessa Ward Tomberlin of Charlotte and Nolan Ward and wife, Wanda of Peachland; his grandchildren, Laura Kaylan Ward of Colorado Springs, CO and Trent Ward and fiance', Haley Black of Peachland; his brother and sister, Richard K. Ward of Peachland and Merietta Cox of Myrtle Beach, SC and a special friend, Adgie James of Wadesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stewart Ward and his sister, Joyce Vollmer.
Leonard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and going to flea markets. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch swing and anything to do with genealogy. He had a generous and caring heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was an excellent cook and was well-known for making chicken and dumplings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge , P.O. Box 298, Wadesboro, NC 28170 for the Masonic Home for Children.
