LILESVILLE - Mrs. Dorothy Mae Hewitt Ingram, 89, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Whitley and Rev. Lawanda Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham. The family will greet friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the home. Dorothy was born January 21, 1928 in Cheraw, SC a daughter of the late Samuel McQuince Hewitt and the late Pearl Marie Quick Hewitt. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Wadesboro. She worked unselfishly in fundraising efforts to pay off the note for the new church building and made needle point crosses to sell to have the parking lot paved. Surviving are her children, James H. Ingram of Cheraw, SC, Linda Ingram Turner (Mike) of Ansonville, Amanda Juwan Ingram of the home, Patricia Ingram Wall (Gene) of Raleigh, and Rita Ingram Tyson of Rocky Mount; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ingram of Lilesville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brother, Joyce Elvis of Hamlet, Mary Lou Smiley of Cowpens, SC, Kathy Hewitt, Myra Kay Hewitt, Diane Hilbourn and Phillip Hewitt all of Fairmont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James Harmon Ingram, Jr., a son, Samuel Nelson Ingram, a son-in-law, Thurman Tyson, Jr., a grandson-in-law, Christopher Carlton Wray, a great-grandson, Ayden Brooks Jones and sisters, Barbara Jean Collins and Katrina Hewitt . The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Richmond County and Anson Community Hospice for the beautiful manner in which they cared for Mrs. Ingram and their family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County and Anson Community Hospice, 1119 N US HWY 1, Rockingham, NC 28379 or to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
