POLKTON - Mrs. Dorothy 'Dot' Newton Tucker, 88, died peacefully Friday, November 9, 2012 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.
Services will be 3:00pm Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Peachland United Methodist Church with Rev. Nicole Jones and Rev. Ruth Mercer officiating. Interment will follow in Griffin Cemetery in Polkton.
The family will greet friends at the church in the old sanctuary for one hour prior to the service.
Dot was born July 17, 1924 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late George Camblin Newton and the late Alma Phifer Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mothers, both of whom she had a loving relationship with, Annie Caudle Newton and Bessie High Newton and by an infant brother.
She worked for the Bank of Peachland and later retired from American Bank and Trust.
A faithful member of Peachland United Methodist Church, she often taught Sunday school and the class enjoyed her teaching and use of visuals. She was a strong Christian lady, who lived her faith as an example to others. She was dedicated to service to others and did so in an humble manner. She had a great appreciation for God's beautiful creations, especially animals, flowers and gardening.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friends. Although she and her husband, Killian, had no children of their own, she was a mother to all of their nieces and nephews and their families, as well as the children who grew up in Peachland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Killian Efird Tucker of the home; her brother and sisters, Lewis Newton of Peachland, Bernice Furr of Monroe, Carol Whisnant of Mint Hill and Frances Hornback of Alton, MO and her nieces and nephews and their families.
