Doug was born August 6, 1936 in Anson County, NC a son of the late James Douglas and Mary Ruth Horne. He worked for more than 30 years as a USDA Inspector for both Holly Farms and Tyson Foods and following his retirement worked with API Security. An avid hunter and fisherman, he raised bird dogs for quail hunting and enjoyed fishing trips to the outer banks of North Carolina. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, and did so for 7 years. He was so enthused with his coaching and the desire to see young boys play ball, he made a practice field adjoining his back yard at home. His teams have competed in State Championship games. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro and relied on his faith to strengthen him through many battles with his health. He was determined and embodied a strong will to live, remaining courageous, always exhibiting a content spirit. It can be said that Doug fought the good fight of faith. Devoted to his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
