Wadesboro - Rev. Doug Moore, age 64, passed boldly from this earthly life to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 6, 2015, while a patient at CMC Union in Monroe, NC and after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Friday at Faith Baptist Church with Chaplain Chris Grizzle officiating. Interment will follow in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening at Leavitt Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00PM.
Doug was born in Monroe, NC on June 23, 1950, a son of the late Betty Ruth Chaney and Earl Lee Moore. Though he may not have realized it early on, Doug was destined to be a minister. During his 31 years of pastoring, he served churches in Albemarle (Tabernacle), Pittsboro (Solid Rock), and Franklin (Emmanuel), NC before leaving the state to serve churches in Colcord OK, Elkins AR, and Munford TN. His most recent church, Faith Baptist in Lilesville, brought him back to NC and closer to his Union county roots.
An avid Tarheel basketball fan, Doug had a playful nature about him that endeared him to his family as well as those he served. He had a great love of the outdoors and especially enjoyed watching things grow whether it be a garden, flowers or his very favorite, children and grandchildren! A wonderful and loving father, Doug believed in having fun, especially with his family as he always kept something going with water guns, Nerf blasters or whatever he could use in a fun way.
A man of great faith, Doug would often say, 'I'm heaven bound with the hammer down!' and fully believed this to be the case. He had a tremendous impact on a number of lives during his ministry as evidenced by the response to his illness and death. He served as a great inspiration to his church members but also was a powerful mentor to younger ministers who looked to him for guidance in their own lives and ministries. Doug loved everyone and will be missed by many.
Survivors include his precious wife of 46 years, Betsy Arrowood Moore of the home; two daughters, Tina (Keith) Henry of Danville, KY and Denise (Chris) Grizzle of El Paso, TX; two grandchildren, Amber Henry and Ryan Henry; his mother-in-law, Ruth Arrowood of Wadesboro; a brother, Dennis Joe Moore of Marshville; and his Faith Baptist Church family whom he dearly loved.
Flowers are welcome and memorials may also be made to Faith Baptist Church Youth Fund, c/o Debbie Ricketts, 1230 Doc Wyatt Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
