On Friday, July 12, 2019 while being cared for in his home, Mr. Earl Henry Allen, age 80, heard the still small voice of God say, "well-done good and faithful servant, enter now into the joys of your Lord."
He was born July 10, 1939 in Anson County, North Carolina and was the oldest of five children born to, Fred J. Allen and Elizabeth Ann Covington Allen. He was a grandson of the late Earl Augustus and Mamie Covington.
Earl graduated from Carver High School in Baltimore City with a certificate in auto mechanics. In high school, he ran track and cross country hurdles. He served in the United States Navy Reserves while attending high school and enlisted into the Navy following graduation where he served honorably. He also served in the Army National Guard. He was retired from the United States Postal Service with more than 30 years of faithful service.
He was known as a sharp dresser and played trombone in Mr. Hollomans band. He enjoyed skating, dancing and walks all over Baltimore City. He also enjoyed watching movies, especially westerns and as a small child he showed a keen interest in playing cowboys and Indians.
At an early age, Earl was baptized at the Southern Baptist Church in Baltimore City, where he and his sister attended all services with their paternal grandmother. After returning to his beloved home of Anson County, he became a member of Parsons Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Davis Allen; his daughters, and son-in-law, Dana Allen Montgomery and Calvin Montgomery, Sr. and Erica Allen; his grandsons, Calvin "CJ" Montgomery, Jr. and Dominic Montgomery; his step-children, Shareta, Jamar, Katrina, Tavon, Timothy and Marco Davis; 15 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Fred Allen, Jr. (Lauren) and Donald Allen (Barbara A.); his sisters, Audrey Parker and Denise Allen; his aunts, Vylean Wiggins, Daisy Covington and Tressie Covington; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John, Garris, Joseph Garris, James Garris, Malik Garris, Octavia Falls, Lucy Whitworth, Mary Garris, Margie Garris, Marlene Hedgepeth, Sandra Horton, Magaline Horton and Alice Nelson; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including longtime and faithful friends, Earl Parker and Doyle Henderson.
Of all his accomplishments, being a father and grandfather were the highlights of his life. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandsons football games. He was indeed a proud Dad and even more so a proud grandfather.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, July 21, 2019 int he Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Pastor J.F. Quick officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Parsons Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
The visitation will be from 2:30pm until 3:00pm Sunday at the funeral home.
