Wadesboro- Mr. Edgar Eddie Reece Pope, Jr., 62, passed away July 25, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte.
There will be a service to celebrate Eddies life at 11:00am Friday, July 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Harry Workman officiating.
The family will greet friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Eddie was born in Anson County on January 26, 1954 a son of Reece Pope and the late Eloise Ingold Pope. He was retired from the Town of Wadesboro with 30 years of service. He first worked as a dispatcher and later became the first Fire Chief to be employed by the Town of Wadesboro. He was the owner and operator of Popes Fire Protection.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where he served as a deacon and an usher. Eddie loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, he was also a member of the Wadesboro Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are his wife, Cindi Thomas Pope of the home; his children, Lisa Annette Pope of Leland, NC and Jonathan Edgar (Dana) Pope of Rockingham; his grandchildren, Payton and Charlie Pope of Rockingham; his step-children, Tiffani Erdmanczyk of Seattle WA and Steven (Kelly) Erdmanczyk of Seattle WA; his father, Reece Pope of Wadesboro; his sisters, Lorraine (Bob) Miller of Troy and Jeanette (Donnie) Aldridge of Ansonville.
Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Lora Lee (John) Reid of Asheboro, Rhonda (Marc) Sessions of Wadesboro, Chris (Misty) Hildreth of Troy and Dale (Cindy) Jarman of New Hill; special fire dept. friends, Jimmy Burns, Gerald Phillips, Bobby Usery, Jeff Poplin, Scott Martin, Donald Sellers, Bo Thompson, Rodney Diggs, Wes Stegall and David Hanna; and pet companion, Buddy R. Pope.
