Eddie was born November 26, 1941 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Turner Lee and Ruth Lee Hill Preslar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Joann Davis Preslar and by his sister, Mary Frances Preslar.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Dutton Preslar; his son and daughter-in-law, Edmund Michael 'Mike and Kathy Preslar of Norwood; his grandchildren, Michael Brice Preslar and Lauren Meredith Preslar both of Norwood; his mother-in-law, Blondell Davis of Peachland; the Davis family, Sherry and Ronnie Austin of Peachland, and Lanny Davis of Peachland; and the Dutton family, Charles and Marcia Dutton of Lake Charles, LA, Donnie and Libby Dutton of Springdale, AR, Judy Poulnott of Wadesboro and Kathy and Joel Carroll of Hudson, NC.
Eddie was a unique and very special man. He was a true son of Polkton and one of the local icons. His heart was in Polkton as he essentially lived all of his life there. A graduate of Polkton High School, he enjoyed keeping up with his classmates and looked forward to their frequent reunions. He loved Polkton Baptist Church and was a lifetime member there. He also loved his friends at Long Pine United Methodist Church, which he frequently visited.
Eddie's career life was filled with a variety of different experiences. In his early years he worked as a salesman with Faulkner Motor Company, a truck driver and salesman for Merita Bakery, a meat department clerk for Winn-Dixie, and a driver and assistant for Leavitt Funeral Home. In later years, he was a Correctional Officer with the NC Department of Corrections and a Bail Bondsman in Anson and surrounding counties. But throughout much of his life, his greatest love was owning and operating his own used car company and wrecker service. Through Polkton Auto Sales, he enjoyed the 'wheeling and dealing' with automobiles and interactions with people. He sold cars to hundreds of local citizens through the years, and he delighted in helping his friends and family find just the right fit for their automotive needs.
Eddie kept his finger on the pulse of what was happening in the community and in the world around him. He liked to be in the 'know' and thoroughly enjoyed phone calls and other communications with family and friends, keeping them aware of the news in or around Polkton and Anson County at large. He especially made sure that everyone was aware of illnesses and deaths in the community, and he was diligent in checking on people who were ill. He had a big, loving heart and sincerely cared about people.
