Elizabeth Barker Constantian

OBITUARY ELIZABETH 'LIB' BARKER CONSTANTIAN WADESBORO, NC Wadesboro - Mrs. Elizabeth Barker 'Lib' Constantian passed away January 4, 2012 at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. Lib was born in Conway, SC and attended Coker College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving to Charlotte and meeting the love of her life, Dr. Richard K. 'Dick' Constantian. They married in 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Wadesboro where they lived and raised two children. Lib appreciated the small town life and became very involved in the community. She would observe that no matter where she went, 'Wadesboro was everywhere,' as she frequently met people from home as far away as Hawaii. Lib worked for many years at Allstate in Charlotte, then as the secretary of the First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Wadesboro. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and dear friend. She had a fun sense of humor and a generous community spirit, volunteering at the Anson County Hospital, driving people in need of medical attention and preparing dinners for families during the holidays. She enjoyed church gatherings and taught Sunday school to both children and seniors. Lib was preceded in death by her parents Cheatham and Ada Barker of Conway, SC, her siblings Edwin, Eldon, Wilbur, Gilbert and Kathleen. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Dick; her son CDR Chip Constantian, USN, his wife Teri and their daughter Gracie; and her daughter Sara, her husband Alan Houck, and their son, Hank. Memorial services will be 4:00PM Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Rollins officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00PM Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home. Additionally there will be a memorial service at 2:00PM Sunday at the Aldersgate Retirement Center. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 118 E. Morgan St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
