WADESBORO – Miss Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Burr, 82, died Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Atrium Health Union in Monroe.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Furr and Rev. Robert Burr officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday and other times at the home of her nephew, Boot Isenberg.
Libby was born January 26, 1938 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Nelson Lee Burr and the late Lizzie White Burr. She was educated at the North Carolina School for the Blind in Raleigh and was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wadesboro before the church closed and in 2007 she moved her membership to Wade United Methodist Church where she attended faithfully until her health declined.
Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Betty Burr and Dollie Burr both of Wadesboro; her nieces and nephews, including, Johnny Isenberg (Jonie), Boot Isenberg (Karen) and Vickie Black (Rusty Link) all of Wadesboro, whom she cared for as her own children and her great-nieces and great-nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, John Burr, Lee Burr, Willie B. Burr, Jack Burr, Berta Isenberg, Paul Burr and J.C. Burr.
Although, limited due to her being legally blind, she maintained independent living until two years ago when she moved to Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro. She found great delight in family gatherings and visits from dear friends. She always looked forward to mealtime, good homecooked meals and talking on the telephone. She had the gift of remembering all the birthdays of her family and their telephone numbers.
At family gatherings, Libby was always treated as royalty and because of that she was nicknamed “Queen Libby”.
Libby’s family is grateful for her special friend, Charlotte Treadaway, who made sure she got to church on Sunday’s and had lunch afterwards. They will always remember all the things she did for her.
