Mother Elizabeth confessed Christ at an early age and joined Pee Dee Baptist Church in Lilesville, NC. She attended Henry Grove School in Lilesville, NC.
Mother Elizabeth married the late William Pegues and relocated to New York and then New Jersey to make a better life for the family. Upon becoming widowed, Mother Elizabeth moved back home to Lilesville and joined Rock Hill Baptist Church where she lived a happy and restful life as a retiree. She enjoyed visiting her children, participating in bus tours, attending church, & shopping.
Elizabeth had one brother, Prentiss Dumas, and one sister, Martha Dumas Kirby, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three loving children: Catherine Sturdivant (Caleb) of Lilesville, NC, William T. Pegues of Nutley, New Jersey, and Addie Pegues Little of Jersey City, NJ; six grandchildren: Melissa Merritt (Tony), Xavier Pegues (Melody), Norlonn Sturdivant (Brooksie), Latasha Zimmerman (Lindsey), Thomas S. Little, and Kenautis D. Little (Keisha); nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Edna P. McCauley of Thomasville, NC; one niece, Mrs. Ella Evonne Underwood of Lilesville, NC with whom she enjoyed sharing special time, such as dinner, shopping, and soap opera updates; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins and friends, including Ruby Sturdivant, Georgia Medley, members of the Rock Hill Baptist Over 50 Senior Club, and all of her buddies at the Grace Senior Center in Wadesboro, NC.
