WADESBORO - Miss Elmina Jane Pegram, 96, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Ambassador Health and Rehab in Wadesboro.
Funeral services will be 3:00PM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Goudelock and Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Elmina was born May 11, 1917 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late William Ranford Pegram and the late Allie Jane Crider Pegram. She was retired from West Knitting Mills after 50 years of service to the company.
An avid fisherman, she enjoyed many trips to Florida with her dear friend, Mary Hamilton for fishing trips and visits with friends and family. Elmina prided herself in making 10 trips to Florida when she was in her 80's, doing her own driving. At the age of 96, she was still quite proud to have her driver's license.
A woman of strong Christian faith, she was devoted to the Wadesboro Church of God. She enjoyed good preaching, singing and fellowship.
While she often came across a bit strong in her delivery, she was really quite mild and had a caring and giving heart. She dearly loved her sisters and brothers and was the primary caregiver for them. In her word's 'somebody had to look after them, it might as well be me'.
Surviving are her sister and brothers, Louise Stalvey of Wadesboro, Jack Pegram of Inman, SC, James 'Runt' Pegram of Mint Hill and Eugene Pegram of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Almond and Ines Pegram and brothers, June, Joe and Bill Pegram.
Memorials may be made to Wadesboro Church of God, Stained Glass Window Fund, 809 N. Greene St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
