Elvertus, daughter of the late Lester Flowers and Gussie Liles Flowers, was born on December 11, 1922 in Wadesboro, N.C. She was the seventh of 10 siblings of which all preceded her in death. After her retirement, she continued to care for children in her home, in which she received great enjoyment. In 2004, her niece Brenda Hopkins and husband Jerry, son Jerry Jr., prepared to move to Delaware with her ailing sister Lee Esther Howard.
