Emma Jean Gaddy Lowry

NORWOOD – On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Mrs. Emma Jean Lowry, 91, passed away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe. 

 Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. 

 The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. 

 Emma Jean was born July 17, 1933, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Clarence Benjamin Gaddy and the late Janie Viola Short Gaddy. She was a member of the last graduating class of Deep Creek High School and was the only girl in the class. It was during her school days that she met the love of her life, John Alexander Lowry, who was in her graduating class as well. She and her sister, Iris were a part of a radio program on WADE Radio in Wadesboro when they were young ladies. 

 She owned and operated Arrow Realty in Simpsonville, SC, driving to Simpsonville for the work week and back home to Norwood for the weekends. Following retirement, she worked with the Stanly County School System as a substitute teacher in the Norwood area schools.  

 Those who are left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Kelly Lowry of Mt. Gilead and Jimmy and Linda Lowry of Norwood; and her grandchildren, Cory Lowery and wife, Megan of Locust, Tyler Lowry and wife, Shayla of Aquadale, Will Lowry and Emily Lowry both of Norwood. 

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lowry and by her sisters, Iris Sellers and Myrtle Lee Hildreth. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
