WADESBORO - Mrs. Evelyn Hancock Riddle, 86, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center in Wadesboro.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Saturday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home.
Evelyn was born September 20, 1926 in Mecklenburg County, NC and grew up in Mt. Croghan, SC. She was a daughter of Cora Lucy Hancock and Thomas Emmitt Lowry.
She grew up on the family farm in Mt. Croghan and was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School where she was a member of both the Beta Club and basketball team. She received her Associate of Arts Degree from Wingate College and her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University.
Evelyn was retired from a 36 year career in elementary education, of which 32 years were spent in Anson County Schools including, Lilesville, Polkton, Wadesboro and Ansonville. She was active in the Anson County Hospital Auxiliary and First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where she was a member and served as director of the church nursery for 25 years.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Charles H. Riddle, Sr. of the home; her son, Charles H. Riddle, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Anchorage, Alaska and her granddaughter, Ryan Nichole Riddle of Anchorage, Alaska.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Emily Gail Riddle.
