WADESBORO - On Sunday, February 14, 2016, Ewell Ellis Evans heard the welcome words of his Lord and Savior, Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joys of thy Lord. He was 87 and a resident at Anson Health and Rehab for just a few days. There will be a service of worship to celebrate Ewells life at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Fred Senter and Dr. Harry Workman officiating. Inurnment will be private in Wightman United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Burnsville Community of Anson County. The family will greet friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home. Ewell was born September 15, 1928 in White Oak, NC a son of the late Pearlie E. Evans and the late Elizabeth Mae Ellis Evans. He was a graduate of White Oak High School and North Carolina State University with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture with more than 40 years of service as consumer protection auditor. Among his many duties with the Agriculture Department, was auditing the NC State Fair. He moved to the office at the fair grounds and often worked until December, auditing the books to perfection. Following retirement, he and his wife moved to their home at Ocean Isle Beach and became active in the community there. He enjoyed fishing, both in the waterways and the ocean. While a member of Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, he served as a volunteer for the prayer line every Tuesday night for 8 years for The Upper Room, a quarterly book of devotions. An avid sports fan, he was a dedicated supporter of NC State Athletics and Anson Bearcat football. The highlight of Bearcat football was attending supper and the games with brothers from his church family. After moving to Wadesboro to be near family, he and his wife became active members of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where he sang in the chancel choir, was a member of Followers of Christ Sunday school class, and was instrumental in the ramp ministry sponsored by the Baptist Men. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Doloris Lee Evans of the home; his sisters-in-law, Linda Lee Humble and husband, Hoyt of Liberty and Anne Evan of White Oak and his nieces and nephews and their families, including, Dr. Misty Cowan-Hathcock and husband, Jim of Wadesboro, who was much like a daughter to Ewell and Doloris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Baptist Men Ramp Ministry, P.O. Box 423, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or to Friends of The Hampton B. Allen Library, Phoebe Lee Garden, 120 S. Greene St., Wadesboro, NC 28170. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
