Frances Carolyn McRae Downer

Lilesville – Mrs. Frances Carolyn McRae Downer, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, while a patient at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 13th, at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Savannah Cemetery in Lilesville. The family will greet friends an hour before the service beginning at 10:00AM.

A native of Anson County, Frances was born November 18, 1938, a daughter of the late Walton and Lois Louise Griffin McRae. Her family later moved to Charlotte, NC, and she finished high school at West Mecklenburg. She worked many years as an insurance underwriter with Hardware Mutual Insurance Company, also in Charlotte.

Survivors include: three children, Patricia Downer Seago (John) of Wadesboro, Robert F. “Bob” Downer, Jr.( wife: Tracie McMillan Downer) of Jefferson, NC, and Jerry B. Downer of Marion, NC; five grandchildren, Jordan Wheeler, Mary-Kathryn Downer, Jacob Phillip Downer (Lucia), Landon Jordan, and Lilly Jordan; and two great-grandchildren, Chase and Emma Carolyn.

Also surviving are two sisters, Lois McRae Hall of Polkton and Mildred McRae Hudson of Spruce Pine. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin Downer; and five siblings, Eugene McRae, Franklin McRae, Susan McRae Edmisten, William R. “Bill” McRae, and Preston McRae.

The family request memorials be made to a Christian Organization of their choice.
