LILESVILLE - Mrs. Frances Smith Hyatt - Harrington, 81, died peacefully at her home Wednesday, February 17, 2016 with her family at her bedside. The family will greet friends from 2:00pm until 3:30pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home with a service celebrating Frances life following in the chapel. Private inurnment will be in Bennett Grove Cemetery in Polkton. There will also be a reception following the service on Saturday at the Lilesville Fire Department. The family will at the Poplin home in Lilesville. Frances was born July 30, 1934 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Marshall Albert Smith and the late Ethel Graham Smith. She was a graduate of Polkton High School and retired from Alltel Communications as Division Manager with 35 years of service. The very active lady, following her retirement she worked at Anson Community Hospital and at the time of her death was working at Headstart as a receptionist. She obviously had a strong worth ethic and never wanted to be idle. In addition to her career life, her greatest pleasure came from being an auctioneer since 1977 and working with her friends at Wadesboro Auction House. She was affectionately referred to as The Colonel and The Queen at the auctions by her family and friends. Frances served as chairman of the board of directors for Anson Crisis Ministry and was a member of Lilesville United Methodist Church and when spending time at Holden Beach, she worshipped at Sharon United Methodist Church. Surviving are her children, Freddy Hyatt and wife, Joanne of Ansonville, Ann Hyatt Poplin and husband, David of Lilesville, Harriett Hyatt Leary and husband, Tank of Ansonville and Frank Hyatt and wife, Leslie of Polkton; her grandchildren, Chris Hyatt and wife, Nicole, Tiffany Ingold, Katie Poplin Martin and husband, Scott, Bethany Poplin, Nick Ingold and Raylan Hyatt; her great-grandchildren, Landon, Ruby, Susanna and Marshall; her sister, Margaret Smith Henry of Polkton and her step-children, Bucky Harrington of Polkton and Diane Harrington Gaddis and husband, W.A. of Concord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Frankie Hyatt, second husband, Malvin Harrington and sister, Betty Smith Adams. Frances loved life and lived it until the end! In her words, she was blessed with a wonderful family and many dear friends. She touched lives in a very positive manner and loved others as Christ does, unconditionally. Her family and friends are indeed better persons for having walked through life with her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anson Crisis Ministry, P.O. Box 797, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or to Union County Community Action Headstart, Attn: Jenny McGuirt, P.O. Box 1029, Monroe, NC 28111 or to the childrens charity of the donors choice. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
