Polkton- Dr. Fredric 'Fred' Arlen Burney, 76, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
Memorial services will be 11:00am Monday, October 21, 2013 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends Sunday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home.
Dr. Burney was born in Bennettsville, SC on February 15, 1937, a son of the late Clyde Burney and Ruth Griggs Burney. He graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1955. He completed his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After completing his residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, he served two years as a Captain in the army. He was based at Fort Benning, GA, as a flight surgeon. He owned and operated his family practice in Ansonville, NC. Fred's passions were hunting, farming and taking care of his patients.
Surviving are his wife, Terry Lynn 'Kiki' Burney of the home; his children, Karen Burney Nash of Wingate, NC, Arlen Burney and wife, Karen of Kannapolis, NC, Beth Roy and husband, Doug of Kannapolis, NC, Adam Burney and wife, Tiffani of Faith, NC, Kacy Burney of Monroe, NC, and Klancy Burney of Salisbury, NC; stepchildren, Kimberly Dickens and Gage Dickens both of Marshville, NC; and six grandchildren, Lucas Nash, David Nash, Heather Burney, Sam Burney, Isabella Pinska and Brayden Pinska.
