George Wayne Watts, Sr

Mr. George 'Gedie' Wayne Watts, Sr., 91, died peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Anson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 4:00pm Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Robert L. Hunter, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends beginning at 3:00pm until time for the service in the church parlor and other times at the home. 'Gedie' was born February 22, 1920 in Pageland, SC a son of the late Townley Blair and Ida Rilla Allen Watts. He had worked for many years as a salesman with Hardison and Hardison and later retired from Sears. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where he was a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class. He had a great love for his family and friends and was blessed with a very tender heart. He would often shed tears of joy when expressing his love for others. He and his late wife, Lib were well-known for their love of gardening and sharing of flowers and plants with many in the community. Surviving are his children, Anne (Gary) McCormick of Lilesville, George (Claudia) Watts, Jr. of Amelia Island, FL, Hannah (Mickey) Wilson of Mint Hill and Tracey (Tippy) Leary of Peachland; his daughter-in-law, Betsy Watts of Wadesboro; his grandchildren, Scott (Meredith) Broadaway of Oakboro, Jennifer (Ryan) Meyers of Port Orange, FL, Ken (Buffy) McCormick of Monroe, Julie (David) Gathings of Inman, SC, Cathy (John) McCormick of Lilesville, Brad Broadaway of Oakboro, LeAnne Snipes of Mint Hill and Allision (Cliff) McGee and Brian (Susan) Wilson both of Monroe; his great-grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Brittany and Lacey Leary, Ken, Liz and Gracin McCormick, Taylor Wheeler, Caleb Seawell, Marti, Samantha and Alex Gathings, Elizabeth and Nichlaus Meyers, Zach, Brennan, Katie, Harrison, Hayley and Blake Broadaway, Justis Bennett, Madeline, Payton and Caroline McGee and Kendall Wilson; his nieces and nephews and their families; his caregivers Leola Ellerbe and Aurilla Burch and special friend, Louie Abernathy. His wife, Elizabeth 'Lib' Hanna Watts and his brothers and sisters, Jake, Tom 'Tinker', Lex, Buck and Lee Watts, Ellen 'Hugie' Rivers, Mary and Hazel Mills, Effie Agerton, Audra Brewer, Maude Harrill and Mayme Pigg preceded him in death. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Victoria Rommel, Dr. Woodburn and the staff at Anson Community Hospital for the excellent care shown during his time there. Everyone at the hospital exemplified a high level of compassionate care for him over the past few weeks. Also, thank you to Ambassador Health and Rehab and Meadowview Terrace.
