Morven - Mrs. Gloria Patricia Teal Truman passed away at Scottish Pines Health and Rehabilitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 96 years old. She was born September 29, 1923 in Wadesboro, NC and was a long-time resident of Morven, NC.
Gloria graduated from Morven High School in 1940 and spent a year in Tampa, FL furthering her education. Following her return to McFarlan, she went to work in Wadesboro where she caught the eye of a dashing young soldier from Aberdeen, SD, who was on maneuvers in Anson County.
She married George Shannon Truman in 1942 in Chesterfield, SC. Together they had three children. Gloria held secretarial positions at Hardison Brothers in Morven and Morven Elementary School where she served as secretary for 26 years until retirement in 1993.
Gloria and her beloved George (Boom Pa), were both very active in the Morven Community especially at Morven Presbyterian Church where both served as officers, Sunday school teachers and Bible study leaders. However, most of their free time was spent doing what they loved the most, attending ball games, family events, and anything that involved their grandchildren. No holiday or any family gathering was ever complete without a visit and a meal at Mama's and Boom Pa's house, period.
Gloria was born to William Lester Teal and Florence Pauline Brooks Teal of McFarlan, NC. Gloria was the third of four children; an older sister, Pauline Teal Childs and two brothers, Jennings Brooks Teal and William Lester Teal.
Gloria and George had three children, Carol Joyce Truman Sellers of Laurinburg, William Lee Truman (Jan) of Hanahan, SC and George Shannon Truman, Jr. (Diane) of Wadesboro.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Shannon Sellers, Michael Sellers, Scott Sellers, Lea Drye, Chris Truman, Kim McVicker, Patricia Maxey, Elizabeth Locklear, and Shannon Truman, as well as, a sister-in-law, Vickie Teal along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, brothers and sister and her son-in-law, Gerald Sellers.
A special word of thanks to the members of Morven Presbyterian Church who were so attentive to Gloria while she was in Morven after George's passing and to a special friend, Pecolia Allen was very close to Mrs. Truman.
