LILESVILLE - Mr. Harding Richard HR Dennis, 91, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Kaye Fry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home. Harding was born September 1, 1924 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Harrison Richard Dennis and the late Pearl Estelle Rorie Dennis. He was a graduate of Ansonville High School and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.He was a life-long member of Olivet United Methodist Church where he served for many years as a Sunday school teacher and secretary of the mens class. He was a farmer for 53 years and also raised Registered Hereford Cattle for 50 years. He was a member of both the North Carolina and Anson Cattlemens Associations. He was among the first to sod plant crops in Anson County and was the Conservation Farmer of the Year. He served as a judge for Anson County Board of Elections for 32 years and was a member of Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Christine Morrison Dennis of the home; his children, Rickie (Pat) Dennis of Charlotte, Ben Dennis of Jacksonville, FL, Jilla (Billy) Gathings of Wadesboro and Cherri (Kevin) Dudley of Fuquay Varina; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Martha Goodwin and Wilma Dennis of Lilesville, H.A. Dennis of Wadesboro and Lindbergh Dennis of LaFayette, TN; his sister-in-law, Joyce Dennis of Lilesville and his brothers-in-law, Rev. Hayward Morrison of Shelby and Gary Morrison of Rockingham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Julian and Everett Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olivet United Methodist Church, % Mrs. Martha D. Goodwin, 3788 Stanback Ferry Rd., Lilesvile, NC 28091. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
